WHYY’s Internet Testbed Project
PROJECT PROPOSAL Edison High School/Fareira Skills Center, an inner-city school with a majority of Latino students, will develop two on-line multimedia publishing projects with the support of WHYY and the University of Pennsylvania (Penn). English and Spanish students will create a showcase to demonstrate the writing process and stimulate reading and writing among students and teachers on the Internet. Electrical students will create a technical assistance service, establishing themselves as experts with their peers nationwide. Penn students will work with Edison/Fareira students on-line and in-person to help develop the Internet services, acting as both role models and tutors. In addition to creating the on-line services, Edison/Fareira students will become Internet trainers for the school, teaching the teachers, as well as their peers. Germantown Friends School is also a partner in the project.
