WHYY’s Internet Testbed Project
PROJECT PROPOSAL Edison High School/Fareira Skills Center, an inner-city school with a majority of Latino students, will develop two on-line multimedia publishing projects with the support of WHYY and the University of Pennsylvania (Penn). English and Spanish students will create a showcase to demonstrate the writing process and stimulate reading and writing among students and teachers on the Internet. Electrical students will create a technical assistance service, establishing themselves as experts with their peers nationwide. Penn students will work with Edison/Fareira students on-line and in-person to help develop the Internet services, acting as both role models and tutors. In addition to creating the on-line services, Edison/Fareira students will become Internet trainers for the school, teaching the teachers, as well as their peers. Germantown Friends School is also a partner in the project.
Remote Technical Assistance (Remote TA, or RTA) is a multidisciplinary effort to improve the quality of interaction between students and instructional staff. RTA provides a seamless, platform-independent mechanism for on-line interaction among students and between students and instructors or teaching assistants (a "TA"), using Internet as the communications medium.
The Scout Report is the flagship publication of the Internet Scout Project. Published every Friday both on the web and by email, it provides a fast, convenient way to stay informed of valuable resources on the Internet. Our team of professional librarians and subject matter experts select, research, and annotate each resource.
